Week 1 of My New Moleskine-based System

Well, the first week of my new system is almost done. It is outlined in My Trusted System Redux. I have gotten most of my 3×5’s filled out with NAs and Projects. I really like the Weekly Planner sections. I get a little thrill when I get to cross off my appointments when they get done.

The Notepad section is nice. I am going to have to shrink my writing size to get more things on my page. I have not run out of room yet, but I sense that I might. I hopefully will add some pictures of the book in its glory, but I am having some back problems and am not able to sit in my chair for more than 10 minutes. I spent all of Wednesday on my back in bed in agony (not only from my back, but also watching the Braves-Yankees day game).

I really feel that this system is going to be a good fit for me. I look forward to fine tuning it.

How has the first week gone for those other folks done with their 18-Month Planners?

On another logistical note, Jason and I have decided that this will be the last week of dedicated daily posts. Jason is going to continue his Leadership posts on Friday. I will come up with a topic to post on weekly. We have a couple more Black Belt posts that we have not received yet. Then we may come up with another topic for another round of Black Belt posts, and also we will be starting a book recommendation section of the site.

Also, one other note, I will be upgrading the Wordpress software this weekend sometime. I figure that since it is a holiday weekend, traffic will be slower so it will be a good time to get it upgraded.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful 4th of July!

- Michael

  • It went pretty well. There’s a very small line in the center of the date “field” (for lack of better term). I’ve been using the left “column” to list deliverables. I’ve been using the right column for appointments. As I think I mentioned before I’m using the page on the right hand side for next action and general to-dos.

It’s been a nice change from having my Palm crash Outlook everytime I synched :)

  • I really love mine. I am using the Pocket 18 Month and it is a great replacement for my lined version. I have detailed my Moleskine usage to the point of death on my site so I will leave further explaination to those willing to click through.

  • I love mine too! I’ve gotten so much more accomplished…

  • Michael,

Hope that you are feeling better.

Like you I had been slightly concerned about running out of space for all the various bits & pieces….not so far! On this topic have a look at Pocketmod - a very clever way of folding paper to create a backup system-.
I haven’t used any cards yet but can see that that is the way to easily caryy forward those things that don’t get done this week or in any given week.

We will see as it develops - I am enjoying the ease and portability of the “new” system!

  • Michael - please post some photos of your actual pages and your 3×5 cards. I would love to see the NA and Project cards you mention.

    Thanks
    Jon

  • Yes, I’d love to see photos, too.

(I just posted to your old entry on this subject instead of this one. Anyway, I’ve suddenly gotten the bug to give the Moleskine planner a try.

  • Geat site BTW - So far I think the 18 month planner is a great format - did use the daily planner but it’s a bit bulky. The diary page gets used for apt using the faint split for am and apm. The notes page I also split left hand side for weekly specific to do’s the right hand side for cross references to page numbers in my plain moleskin notebook - this provides easy references for meeting notes etc. Context list I keep on index cards unless they becomse time specific. I use a Pritt glue stick (which creates post it note style glue for paper card etc) to put in cards if I need to have specific reference to a context or agenda list etc.

Interested to see how other combine the planner with other GTD tools

  • Hey Michael! Prayin’ for ya to feel better soon! Wishing you luck on the planner as well. Please continue to keep us updated as you learn more. I third the motion for the pictures. Looking forward to the other blackbelt posts, and the book recommendations!

    Have a fantastic 4th everyone!
