System Overhaul (Managing My Lists)
One key factor in using GTD® to its true potential is managing lists of various types. GTDers tend to have lists for anything from grocery shopping to packing for travel. I use lists a lot myself. The geek in me cannot use sticky notes or little 3X5 cards. I have to have some high tech gadget to manage my lists. This is where the PDA and ListPro come in.
ListPro syncs well with your computer. So I can access my lists on both my notebook and my PDA. ListPro gives me several advantages.
- I can categorize list items (for example, on a shopping list, by store) and filter based on my context or location.
- I do not lose a piece of paper (I am going to be sure to watch and not lose my PDA since I use for so many other things)
- Items within lists disappear as they are checked off (this can be changed in preferences, but that is my preference)
You can try it out for 30-days for free. It’s a great piece of software, especially if you want to use a PDA for your lists. I recommend it.

Jason,
I went to the website and looked at the stuff too. I’m curious as to why you think this is really so much better than, say, the Note function on Outlook/Palm for what is done in GTD.
I can see the additional features. But I’m curious as to what you think the big benefits are over standard Notes that would cause you to buy another program, pay more dollars, synch another piece to the PC, etc.
I guess my question is “if I’m going to again complicate my life with another program, maintenance, and learning curve, how will it make my life better?” And I’m a tools lover, no doubt about it. But I have a hard enough time staying disciplined enough to implement GTD with simple stuff. So how would this really help?
Thanks for the blog - it’s a good one.

I’m looking for something like this, but unfortunately it won’t work on my computer (I have a Mac). Is there anything similar for the Mac?

Alan, Have you tried Kinkless?
KGTD?

Alan,
Reality bytes makes a good recommendation. Merlin Mann at 43 Folders also uses KGTD and writes about using GTD with a MAC. In the 43 Folders forum, there is also a board that focuses on GTDing with MACs.

Thanks for the suggestion, Reality and Jason. I am in fact using kGTD, but I’m not happy with the way it syncs to the Palm (through iCal): project names are lost, a bug somewhere prevents tasks checked out on the palm to be removed from kGTD, and (even though I’m using DateBk5) I still need to find a good way not to be overwhelmed by the number of tasks on the Palm (I guess I should try playing with views).
I’m following 43 Folders closely, but I have not yet found the killer Mac / Palm approach yet.
And thank you for your blog, it’s a great one.

Jason, thanks for the tip. Eventhough I am still in good hope Backpack will become a better GTD tool, I don’t use it that much anymore. Because it lacks contexts and good filter and search tools. Also, I need to be online to check it. I am online most of the time, but just firing up LinkPro on my PocketPC is more simple. LinkPro seems to do a good job for what I see in my first 20 minutes test of the program. I think I will try it for a few small projects like errands. More on it in weeks to come
