Contexts? You don’t need no stinkin’ contexts!

Lately, I have become torn with my selection of contexts. I am in IT so I have quite a number of computer related contexts and lately, I have found that it is easier to put everything on my mGTD that I keep with Moleskine Planner/Notebook. There are columns for next action, context, project, waiting for and S/M on the mGTD. I have found myself writing down NA for all of my tasks. Sometimes I will drop a context in the list, sometimes, when applicable, I will put the project down. I do us the waiting for column a lot.

BlackBerry Hacks

As our regular readers know, I recently purchased a BlackBerry Pearl and have been using it, in large part, as my GTD tool of choice.  Upon a recommendation, I picked up a copy of BlackBerry Hacks by Dave Mabe.  I have found several great nuggets in this book to enhance my BlackBerry experience.

Little known fact…

Our friend, Emory Lundberg, wrote several of the hacks posted in the book.  Way to go!!!

This book covers everything from using your BlackBerry as a fax machine, to displaying your signal strength in numbers rather than bars.

Let the Best Idea Win

It is very difficult, when you are a leader who is honestly trying to advance, to see yourself in a meeting that you had thoroughly prepared for, only find your idea gets trumped by the idea of another. The discussion goes in a completely different direction than you anticipated. Your idea gets discarded, and with it, your hopes of some great exposure.

According to John C. Maxwell in his book The 360° Leader, it is better to let that idea win, than to fight for your idea when it is not the best one. Good ideas are the lifeblood of an organization. Without them, an organization cannot survive.

Confessions of a Procrastinator

Hi, my name is Jason…and I am a procrastinator. There…I said it.

David Allen has always said that it will take up to two years to get your GTD system up and running properly. I am approaching that two year mark. I have learned so much about how to set up a system and organize. However, I have apparently failed to absorb the message of Chapter 9 in Getting Things Done.

GTD: Framework or Set in Stone

Happy New(ly Productive) Year!

Hello to all of our readers. I apologize for the lack of post in the new year. Over the break, I found out that my email server box is slowly beginning to die, so I have been frantically trying to get things in place for a new email server at my work. I hope to start posting more very soon.

I have had growing frustration while reading the Official Forums at DavidCo. It seems that there is an increasing amount of posts that follow the same form:

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

We would be remiss as a goal-oriented, productivity website to not talk about New Year’s resolutions.

As I prepare to try to make myself more productive in 2007, I plan to do a couple of things to strengthen my system and educate myself.

First, I want to be much more consistent with my weekly review.

Second, I want to read 20 books this year. I commute to work every day. So some of this can be done in the car between my home and place of employment with audio books. But this also means I will need to spend less time watching TV, and more time with a book.
