Using the tag function in Evernote
I have been an Evernote user for a couple of years. Recently, I was fortunate to get an invite to try out the new version. It has refreshed me on one of the best functions of Evernote…tagging.
Of course, being able to tag things can help us find things later. However, one of the best uses I find for the tags, is to mark items for specific use later. Once you process the items, you can remove the tag, and start tagging new items for the next processing period.
A couple of examples that I use…
Marked for WAR - This has nothing to do with a war. “WAR” stands for “Weekly Activity Report”. Part of my job is to submit an activity report each week. So when it comes time to write my report, cut and paste and a little editing is all that is necessary.
Marked for Weekly Review - This tag is for any item that I need to process in my weekly review. When the time arrives for my weekly review, filter on this tag, and I am on my way.
So if I get an email that I need to document for either purpose, I tag it. I take notes from meetings and tag them. Document phone calls and tag them.
The key is to capture and process. Evernote’s tagging function makes that process easier for me.
If you have other tags you like to use, or simply have a different approach altogether…feel free to share in the comments.
